Diabetic Retinopathy

During the early stages of diabetic retinopathy no medical treatment is needed other than more frequent eye checks. However, to prevent progression and vision loss, good control of blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol are essential. Regular exercises and a healthy diet are also required.

When there is more severe retinopathy or macula swelling, treatment with laser or eye injections is often used. Your ophthalmologist will discuss these treatment options with you.
